Part-Time Teaching Opportunities
WMU occasionally has need in Grand Rapids for part-time instructors/adjunct faculty for many of the graduate (500 and 600) level courses.
Unless otherwise noted, the minimum requirements for a teaching position at WMU include a Masters Degree (Doctorate usually preferred and frequently required) in a closely related field of study, substantial related work experience as a teacher and/or administrator, and significant professional experience in the discipline through professional association memberships, conference presentations and/or publications. Previous teaching experience at the college level is a plus, especially at the graduate level.
Part-time instructors at WMU are required to use a WMU department syllabus and text books. Computer labs (PC and Macintosh), on-line library services, internet access, e-mail accounts, mobile computer workstations with PowerPoint software, and LCD projectors are some of the resources available to all instructors at WMU in Grand Rapids.
WMU offers Fall, Spring, and two Summer sessions, and courses are generally scheduled evenings or weekends. Daytime courses are offered weekdays in the Summer only. Most courses are offered for three credit hours, and require from twelve to fifteen class meetings of approximately three contact hours each. Courses are scheduled at one of the two Grand Rapids centers: the Beltline Campus, adjacent to Woodland Mall, or the Downtown Campus, located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids.
